Well, the quick answer, I recommend getting the Vitamix 5200 if you want a reliable and durable Vitamix at an affordable price.

But if you can afford the Vitamix 7500, then I advise getting it since it’s much more powerful and comes with advanced features that will benefit your blending experience.

In this short review, I compare the Vitamix 7500 and 5200 and give my recommendation to ensure you’re getting a blender that suits your needs!

What is the Difference Between the Vitamix 5200 and 7500?

  • The 5200 comes with the 64-oz classic tall container, while with the 7500 you get the 64-oz low-profile container.
  • The 7500 has a larger 2.2-HP motor, while the 5200 features a 2.0-HP motor.
  • The 7500 low-profile container features 4-inch blades which are an inch larger than the 3-inch blades in the 5200 classic tall containers.
  • Vitamix 5200 is much cheaper at about $150 less than the 7500.
  • The 7500 has a built-in noise dampening and cooling fan, but the 5200 doesn’t.
  • The Vitamix 5200 is available in more color options Red, Black, White, Brushed Stainless, and Platinum, while the 7500 is only available in Red, Black, and White.

Vitamix 7500 vs 5200: Blender Base & Motor Comparison

Since the Vitamix 5200 came out in October 2007, it has won the hearts of many blender enthusiasts. Such that it’s now the best-selling Vitamix blender of all time!

And this is for good reasons! The 5200 features a 2.0 peak horsepower motor, which is powerful enough to cut through virtually any ingredient you throw in it.

It’ll chop through vegetables and fruits to make tasty smoothies with a silky-smooth consistency and grind through nuts to give you creamy homemade nut butter!

But avid blender users, especially guys who blend dry ingredients like grinding coffee found out that the 5200 unusually heated up after extended use.

And while this issue wasn’t there for the regular blender users, Vitamix saw it fit to go back at the drawing board and solve the problem once and for all! And that was the genesis of the G-Series Vitamix blenders, which include the 7500 model.

So, How Did the Vitamix 7500 Solve this Problem?

The Vitamix 7500 comes with a more powerful 2.2 peak horsepower motor with cooling fans and noise insulation.

These improvements solved the heating problem while making the blender run much quieter than the 5200. Thus, the 7500 can grind just about any dry ingredient without heating up even with extended use.

TIP: The 2.0-HP motor of the 5200 is still powerful to handle all your day-to-day blending needs. That includes making homemade nut butter from time to time. And that might explain why you’ll find the 5200 in most homes compared to the 7500!

And How Do the Vitamix 7500 Controls Compare to the 5200?

A quick look at the Vitamix 7500 and 5200 blender bases will leave you with one conclusion. That their control switches and dials are almost similar. Actually, their functions are almost identical!

The 5200 features an On/Off switch on the right, a 10-Speed Dial in the middle, and a Two-Position spring switch on the left. The latter does a function almost similar to that of a pulse button.

That’s, by flicking it up, it put the motor on the highest speed, thus overriding the speed settings.

NOTE: Due to the spring feature, the Two-Potion switch will only stay up for as long as you hold it, which is super handy when you need a second or two of high power blending while blending on low settings.

Likewise, the 7500 has an On/Off switch on the right, a 10-Speed Dial in the middle, and a Pulse switch on the left. In this case, the Pulse button overrides the speed settings by blending on high for as long as you hold it!

TIP: Using the Pulse feature of the 7500 is a much easier experience than using the Two-Position switch of the 5200 which can be a pain when you are looking to get the “pulsing” experience!

Vitamix 7500 and 5200: Container & Blades Comparison

Both the Vitamix 7500 and 5200 come with 64-oz blending jars. But while the containers are of the same volume, they are not identical nor interchangeable!

With 5200 you get the 64-oz classic container, which is narrow and tall. Whereas the 7500 comes with the 64-oz low-profile container that’s short and wide.

TIP: The advantage of the 64-oz low-profile jar is that it fits under the standard kitchen cabinet. But to fit the 5200 model in the kitchen cabinet, you will need to remove the jar from the base and store them separately.

Both the two containers are self-cleaning, but NOT dishwasher safe. Putting any of the containers in the dishwasher might ruin the parts which may end up voiding the warranty!

How Do the Vitamix 7500 and 5200 Blades Compare?

Both the blades of the Vitamix 7500 and 5200 are made of the same technology and material just like all the other Vitamix blender blades. That’s laser-cut stainless steel!

And unlike other blenders that feature sharp blades, the Vitamix blender blades are dull to the touch. As such, they cut, chop, grind, and blend through the high motor power, which has proven very effective!

The only difference in the blades is the size. In this case, the 7500 low-profile container comes with large 4-inch blades, while the 5200 classic tall container comes with 3-inch blades.

TIP: While the 7500 features a larger blade, the material, and technology used are the same, and therefore, you’ll get the same results even with the smaller blades that come with the 5200 containers.

2. Is the Vitamix 5200 worth it?

Yes, it’s worth it and that explains why the 5200 is the best-selling Vitamix blender to date! It’s affordable and yet as powerful and durable as the 7500. I recommend it to large families who want an affordable, high-powered blender with easy-to-use controls.

3. Is the Vitamix 5200 discontinued?

No, the Vitamix 5200 hasn’t been discontinued! Whereas it’s an older model that has been there for over a decade, Vitamix still offers both customer and technical support services for this model.

4. Is the Vitamix 7500 Quieter?

Yes, compared to the 5200, the Vitamix 7500 is quieter. Thanks to the built-in noise insulation that ingeniously works to dampen noise and vibration. It makes it 40% quieter than the 5200. So, if you want a quieter blender, I recommend the 7500.

5. How Loud is Vitamix 5200?

Compared to the 7500, Vitamix 5200 is loud. If you live in a tiny apartment, your neighbors will hear you using the blending machine. But loud noise also means you’re getting a powerful but affordable blender to handle all your blending needs.

6. Is Vitamix 7500 Self Cleaning?

Yes, it’s self-cleaning! All you need is to fill it with clean water halfway and add a bit of dishwashing soap. Then turn it from 1 to 10 for about 60 seconds. Pour the soapy water over the lid and rinse well.

NOTE: The Vitamix 7500 container is NOT dishwasher safe. So don’t put it in the dishwasher, or you will end up ruining its parts which might damage the warranty!

7. What Replaced the Vitamix 5200?

The Vitamix 5200 was replaced by the Vitamix G-Series blenders which include the 7500 model. The G-series blenders have larger 2.2-HP motors which are more powerful meaning faster blending times with much better consistency!

TIP: But that doesn’t mean the 5200 isn’t any better. Actually, I recommend getting the 5200 if you want a reliable blender but on a budget!

8. Does the Vitamix 5200 Pulse?

Yes, the Vitamix 5200 has a pulse “max power” switch on the left. So, if you’re in the middle of a blend and you need to pulse, all you need is to flick this switch up.

Cleaning the Vitamix 7500 is super easy! You just need to fill the container about halfway with clean water and add some dishwashing soap. Then, turn the machine from 1 to 10 and let it run for about 60 seconds. Pour the soapy water over the lid and rinse well.

TIP: And if needed, wipe the base with a soft damp cloth.

10. Is Vitamix 5200 Glass or Plastic?

The Vitamix 5200 container is made of BPA-free plastic. This plastic is rock-solid and durable, and with proper maintenance, it can last as long as your blender base.

TIP: While glass looks like a better material than plastic on paper, a glass blending container can easily get shuttered, especially when blending rough ingredients like nuts. That’s why Vitamix prefers durable and reliable plastic containers!

Vitamix 7500 vs 5200: Which Do I Recommend & Why!

If you can afford it, I recommend getting the Vitamix 7500 over the 5200. It’s much powerful and runs quieter. Thanks to the larger motor with cooling fans and noise insulation.

With the 7500, you get a high-powered Vitamix blender that has proven to be reliable and durable no matter what ingredient you toss in it! This is what you get when you need an all-in-one blending machine for all your needs!

However, that doesn’t mean the 5200 is inferior. I actually recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable Vitamix for just about $400. It’s powerful, durable, and rock-solid reliable to suit your day-to-day family blending needs!

  1. hi, you sound so knowledgeable.. can I please ask some advise..
I mainly make shakes.. when i use fruit i can use more than 4 cups but every day i make a mocha ice blended which is 2 cups of ice and 3 shots of espresso… that being said would you rec getting the 750 and buying a 32oz wet(wish I could use the dry that comes w the package deal but sounds like i cant) and pay $150 more for that? OR can i just buy the 5200 and bc its more slim i could utilize the 64 for ice blended? or will i need 32 oz wet regardless for such a small thing(barely 3 cups)? thank you!

    • Hi Patrick,

Sorry, I took forever to get back to you! I wish I offered my insights sooner/timely!

I understand where you are coming from with this inquiry, and my best recommendation would be to get the Vitamix 5200 and take advantage of the narrow design of the 64-oz Classic/Tall Jar. With that, you don’t need to get any other wet container – it can make both small and large batches.

      I hope this helps, thanks!
